    Europeans launch UN sanctions process against Iran, drawing Tehran ire

    PARIS: Britain, France and Germany on Thursday (Aug 28) triggered a 30-day course of to reimpose United Nations sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme, a transfer more likely to escalate tensions two months after Israel and america bombed Iranian services.

    Iran swiftly denounced the choice, with a senior official accusing the three European powers of harming diplomacy and insisting Tehran “won’t concede below stress”.

    E3 MOVE TO ‘SNAP BACK’ SANCTIONS

    The so-called “snapback mechanism” was activated because the E3 feared shedding the choice to revive sanctions when their prerogative expires in October.

    French International Minister Jean-Noel Barrot mentioned the choice didn’t imply the top of diplomacy, whereas German International Minister Johann Wadephul urged Iran to cooperate with the Worldwide Atomic Power Company (IAEA) and decide to direct talks with the US within the coming month.

    IRAN REJECTS PRESSURE
