    Danish PM furious over reported US spying on Greenland

    OSLO: Denmark’s prime minister voiced outrage on Friday (Could 9) after media stories that Washington would step up spying within the Danish autonomous territory of Greenland, which is coveted by United States President Donald Trump.

    The Wall Avenue Journal reported this week that US intelligence businesses had been ordered to search out out extra about its independence motion and opinions on American exploitation of assets.

    Based on the newspaper, intelligence businesses had been requested to establish folks in Greenland and Denmark who assist US aims.

    “After all, you can’t spy towards an ally,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen advised reporters on the sidelines of a gathering of the Joint Expeditionary Power (JEF) coalition in Oslo.

    Frederiksen famous that Denmark’s International Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen had already been in touch with the US and that the stories have been “rumours”.

    On Thursday, the cost d’affaires on the US embassy in Denmark Jennifer Corridor Godfrey was summoned to a gathering on the Danish international ministry.

    “We can not tolerate folks spying on one another. This message was despatched very clearly at this time,” Lokke advised Danish broadcaster DR on Thursday.

    “Spying in Nuuk by the US is totally unacceptable. It’s disrespectful,” Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated.

    Tensions between the US and Denmark have soared after Trump repeatedly said he wanted to take control of the resource-rich Arctic island.

    The US president has insisted Washington wants management of Greenland for safety causes, refusing to rule out using power to safe it.
