    Ukraine moves to restore power of anti-graft agencies

    KYIV: Ukrainian lawmakers on Thursday (Jul 31) permitted a invoice restoring the independence of the nation’s two most important anti-corruption businesses, shifting to defuse a political disaster that has shaken religion in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s wartime management.

    Thousands of protesters rallied in Kyiv and different cities in current days in a uncommon present of discontent after lawmakers led by Zelenskyy’s ruling celebration rushed by amendments final week defanging the revered businesses.

    Zelenskyy reversed course after the outcry and beneath stress from high European officers, who warned that Ukraine was jeopardising its bid for EU membership by curbing the powers of its anti-graft authorities.

    Some lawmakers appeared in parliament with hand-made placards mimicking these carried by protesters.

    The invoice now goes to Zelenskyy for signature.
