    Trump says Harvard to pay US$500m in settlement with administration

    WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (Sep 30) that his administration had reached a take care of Harvard College beneath which the college can pay US$500 million and function commerce colleges, after months of tense negotiations.

    “Linda is ending up the ultimate particulars,” Trump advised reporters within the Oval Workplace, referring to Schooling Secretary Linda McMahon. “And so they’ll be paying about US$500 million they usually’ll be working commerce colleges. They are going to be instructing individuals learn how to do AI and plenty of different issues, engines, a number of issues.”

    Harvard had no rapid remark.

    FEDERAL FUNDS THREATENED

    The Trump administration has threatened to withhold federal funding from colleges, schools and universities over points starting from pro-Palestinian protests in opposition to Israel’s conflict in Gaza to local weather initiatives and variety, fairness and inclusion practices.

    Rights teams have raised issues over free speech and educational independence. Trump has repeatedly accused universities, together with Harvard, of tolerating antisemitism throughout pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

    Protesters, together with Jewish teams, argue the federal government wrongly conflates criticism of Israel with antisemitism and advocacy for Palestinian rights with extremism. The administration has not launched equal probes into Islamophobia.

    Harvard process forces reported earlier this yr that each Jewish and Muslim college students confronted abuse through the Gaza conflict.
