    Academics union head Randi Weingarten resigns from DNC

    American Federation of Academics (AFT) President Randi Weingarten is departing the Democratic Nationwide Committee (DNC), citing disagreements with DNC Chair Ken Martin.

    Weingarten instructed Martin in a letter dated June 5 and obtained by The Hill on Sunday that she was declining to be reappointed as an at-large member of the committee.

    “Whereas I’m a proud Democrat, I seem like out of step with the management you’re forging, and I don’t need to be the one who retains questioning why we’re not enlarging our tent and actively attempting to have interaction increasingly more of our group,” wrote Weingarten, who has served as a DNC member for 23 years.

    Weingarten backed then-Wisconsin Democratic Occasion Chair Ben Wikler to function DNC chair throughout elections earlier this 12 months. Weingarten was later eliminated by Martin from the DNC’s Guidelines and Bylaws Committee.
