    ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia: Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas known as on Saturday (Feb 14) for the removing of “all obstacles” he stated Israel has imposed on implementing part two of the Gaza ceasefire, in a speech at an African Union summit in Ethiopia.

    “We emphasise the necessity to raise all obstacles imposed by the Israeli occupation on the implementation of the provisions associated to the second part of the settlement,” Abbas stated, in a speech learn by his prime minister Mohammed Mustafa.

    This included the work of a technocratic committee established to supervise the day-to-day governance of Gaza, he added.

    Removing of the obstacles was wanted to “guarantee continuity of companies, coordinate humanitarian efforts and allow a swift restoration”, the president stated.

    Abbas accused Israel of “persevering with to violate” the ceasefire settlement with Palestinian militant group Hamas that took impact in October and was backed by the US.

    “From the announcement of the ceasefire till as we speak, greater than 500 Palestinians have been killed (in Gaza), which threatens the sturdiness of the truce and the total implementation of its second part,” he added.

    Though the US-brokered truce entered its second part final month, violence has continued within the Palestinian territory, with Israel and Hamas buying and selling blame.

    The deal is aimed toward completely ending the conflict in Gaza and was endorsed in November by the United Nations.
