Jimmy Cliff, Jamaican Reggae Icon, Is Useless

Jimmy Cliff, the Jamaican reggae singer who helped popularize the style around the globe with songs like “You Can Get It If You Actually Need” and “The Tougher They Come,” has died. He was 81.

Music is like air that we breathe. And as soon as it’s there, all people breathes it. The business, to me, is the primary time I got here out of my mom’s womb. And I say [screaming] — and I began making my sound and I by no means stopped. Music can spotlight consciousness. And from that consciousness, folks can take some sort of motion to higher the state of affairs. I believe that’s the position music has performed via the ages. And I believe it’s the position that it’s enjoying now. And I believe that’s the position that it will probably play.

Jimmy Cliff, the Jamaican reggae singer who helped popularize the style around the globe with songs like “You Can Get It If You Actually Need” and “The Tougher They Come,” has died. He was 81.
