    Iran supreme leader appoints former Guards chief as military adviser: media

    TEHRAN: Iran’s new supreme chief has appointed the previous chief of the Revolutionary Guards as a navy adviser, native media reported on Monday (Mar 16). 

    “Common Mohsen Rezaei was appointed as navy adviser by the order of commander-in-chief Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei,” Mehr information company reported. 

    Different media additionally reported the appointment. 

    Rezaei, 71, beforehand headed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the ideological arm of Iran’s navy. He has since held a number of senior positions inside Iran’s political system.

    Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, was named Iran’s supreme leader earlier this month, succeeding his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US and Israeli strikes on Feb 28. 

    Iran has since been at struggle with the USA and Israel in a battle that has unfold throughout the Center East. 

    Beneath the late supreme chief, Yahya Rahim Safavi held the place of navy adviser. 

    It was not instantly clear whether or not he holds the identical place underneath Mojtaba Khamenei. 

    On Monday, the brand new supreme chief issued a press release saying officers and heads of state establishments appointed underneath his father ought to “proceed to hold on with their work”.
