    Iran declares Strait of Hormuz closed as ‘unauthorised’ vessel hit

    DUBAI: Iran on Sunday (Jul 12) stated it closed the Strait of Hormuz after a vessel travelled on an unapproved route and was struck, warning that any retaliation over the incident could be met with a “extreme response”.

    “A vessel that had jeopardised maritime safety by switching off its methods was struck and dropped at a halt,” the Navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated in a press release, with out giving any particulars in regards to the ship.

    The assertion stated a number of ships tried to maneuver via the waterway on an “unauthorised route” and disregarded warnings to appropriate their course.

    The strait, the IRGC stated, was closed “till additional discover” and till “the tip of US interference on this area”.

    Acts of aggression in opposition to Iran “will probably be met with a extreme response, and new enemy bases within the area will probably be focused”, the Navy stated.

    The US army stated that it had launched a brand new spherical of strikes in opposition to Iran, after Tehran “blatantly attacked” a container ship within the Strait of Hormuz.

    It was the third spherical of strikes in opposition to Iran this week, US Central Command stated in a press release, “after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces blatantly attacked M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz”.
