    WASHINGTON: Considered one of Indian billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani’s firms pays the USA US$275 million to settle a probe into whether or not it violated Washington’s sanctions towards Iran, the US Treasury mentioned in an announcement on Monday (Might 18).

    “AEL agreed to settle its potential civil legal responsibility for 32 obvious violations of OFAC’s Iran sanctions,” the Treasury mentioned, pointing to AEL’s purchases of liquefied petroleum gasoline (LPG) shipments between November 2023 and June 2025.

    Monday’s announcement got here days after Adani agreed to pay a separate US$18 million settlement in a US civil courtroom case linked to corruption, with out admitting guilt, in response to one among his different firms.

    In that case, Adani was accused of getting participated in an estimated US$250 million scheme to bribe Indian officers for profitable photo voltaic power provide contracts.

    Monday’s US settlement announcement mentioned AEL had cooperated with OFAC’s probe and agreed to further nonmonetary remedial measures to strengthen compliance with US sanctions.

    The probe centered on LPG imports organized by a Dubai-based provider that claimed to be exporting Omani and Iraqi gasoline, OFAC mentioned.
