    Hong Kong migrants in UK face uncertainty over possible 10-year residency rule

    In 2020, Beijing imposed a nationwide safety regulation on Hong Kong following months of anti-government protests.

    Chinese language authorities say the regulation has restored stability to town, however critics argue it has been used to silence dissent.

    On the time, then-UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative authorities responded by providing Hong Kongers British Nationwide (Abroad) – or BN(O) – standing and their households a visa in 2021.

    “It’s a ethical lifeline for Hong Kongers to maneuver to the UK, and so we should not see that as a daily immigration rule. It’s an ethical promise from the UK authorities,” he stated.
