    Greenland rejects US takeover ‘under any circumstance’: govt

    NATO BACK GREENLAND

    Final week, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and the UK issued a joint statement with Denmark to indicate their backing for Copenhagen and Greenland in opposition to Trump.

    “On the premise of the very optimistic declaration from the six NATO member states concerning Greenland, the Authorities of Greenland will intensify efforts to make sure that the defence of Greenland is carried out inside NATO,” Monday’s assertion mentioned.

    “Greenland will at all times be a part of the Western defence alliance,” the federal government added.

    Denmark and different European allies have voiced shock at Trump’s threats over the strategic island, which has been dwelling to a US navy base since World Conflict II.

    A Danish colony till 1953, Greenland gained dwelling rule 26 years later and is considering finally loosening its ties with Denmark. Polls present that Greenland’s folks strongly oppose a US takeover.
