    I write with concern following these articles revealed in sequence in The Seattle Occasions:

    “President Trump fires Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden” (Could 8, Nation);

    “US poets laureate criticize Trump’s firing of Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden” (Could 9, Nation);

    “Trump administration fires top copyright official days after firing Librarian of Congress” (Could 11, Nation).

    The Trump administration is continuous a purge of dedicated civil servants, shrinking departments that serve the general public good. It’s eradicating areas encouraging dissent and unbiased thought, of training and data and important pondering.

    Eradicating U.S. historical past books from our navy academies can also be a grave concern.

    This can be a figurative type of e-book burning by discouraging or eradicating the mental, deeper pondering essential to a democratic society.

    If voters have been unaware of those restrictive and plainly un-American actions, they now know. To paraphrase, first they got here for the librarians. Who’s subsequent?

    Charlene Kahn, Seattle
