WASHINGTON: EU commerce chief Maros Sefcovic mentioned Thursday (Feb 28) that reciprocity in tariffs must be made to work for each the bloc and Washington, after talks together with his counterparts in US President Donald Trump’s administration.
Whereas the US is planning “reciprocal tariffs,” the European Union is open to working with Trump officers in the direction of reducing duties for industrial items and stepping up purchases of US merchandise, Sefcovic informed reporters.
“We shall be able to look (at) how we are able to decrease the import duties for all industrial merchandise,” he mentioned, a day after assembly Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Commerce Consultant nominee Jamieson Greer.
Trump has taken intention on the EU and others over commerce, asserting plans for sweeping duties tailor-made to every US buying and selling companion, and making an allowance for non-tariff components.
However Sefcovic pressured after his four-hour assembly with commerce counterparts that if Washington have been searching for reciprocity, “it should work for each” sides.
