Donald Trump has handed automakers a one-month reprieve on tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, the White Home mentioned.

White Home press secretary Karoline Leavitt mentioned the US president had spoken with Stellantis, Ford and Basic Motors on Wednesday.

Leavitt added that the exemption would apply to automobiles complying with the phrases of the 2020 commerce deal between the US, Mexico and Canada.

“The president is giving them an exemption for one month so they don’t seem to be at an financial drawback,” Leavitt mentioned.

The transfer comes days after the Trump administration imposed 25 per cent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, and a further 10 per cent levy on China.

This can be a growing story
