    India says sailors rescued off tanker ablaze off Oman

    MUMBAI: Omani authorities airlifted 24 Indian sailors off a tanker on hearth off the coast of Oman on Monday (Jun 8), New Delhi officers mentioned, with out saying what brought on the blaze.

    “We’re grateful to the Omani authorities for his or her swift response and rescue of all of the 24 crew members of Indian nationality, onboard MT Marivex, and guaranteeing their security,” the Indian embassy in Oman mentioned in an announcement on social media.

    India’s Ministry of Ports, Delivery and Waterways mentioned a fireplace was reported at round 1.30 pm (4.30 pm, Singapore time) on the MT Marivex, a Palau-flagged tanker.

    “There was a fireplace reported on a vessel, MT Marivex, on which there have been 24 Indian seafarers… all Indian seafarers are secure,” ministry director Opesh Kumar Sharma advised reporters.

    Photographs posted on social media by the Ahead Seamen’s Union of India confirmed crew members being winched from the vessel by helicopter as thick black smoke billowed from its bridge and lodging cabins.

    The tanker’s place was proven by ship-tracking service MarineTraffic as being off the coast of Oman, south of the capital Muscat.
