In “What Happens When Socialists Are in Charge? Portland Offers a Glimpse” Oct. 5, Information, Kellen Browning wrote, “A gaggle of socialists on the Metropolis Council in Portland, Ore., have confronted institution backlash as they promise sweeping adjustments aimed toward bettering the lives of on a regular basis residents.”
As a socialist who had lived and arranged in Portland, this text hit house. The important thing phrases are “institution backlash at bettering the lives of on a regular basis residents.” Nicely, to quote the classical response: DUH! That is the essence of the issue with capitalism. The rich, who’re in cost, maintain onto their wealth and energy by denying the strange, and majority, of individuals first rate lives. The reply is socialism, the place the wealth produced by the bulk, is shared amongst them, together with the accountability of operating the financial system. Voting it in at all times faces the enmity of the institution, aka ruling class, however a method or one other, we will need to have it.
