As a Seattle resident, I assist not solely the pro-democracy protests taking place throughout the nation but additionally right here in Washington. At a time when primary democratic rules like the suitable to vote and truthful elections are being challenged, we should stay dedicated to defending them.

Washington continues to be a pacesetter in voter entry, with vote-by-mail and automated registration. However threats to democracy elsewhere, together with voter suppression and disinformation, influence us all. Democracy is just as sturdy because the folks keen to face up for it.

I applaud the work being executed right here in Washington to advertise truthful elections, correct data and accountability. Let’s proceed to demand that democratic establishments stay sturdy, inclusive and clear.

Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It depends upon us.

    Bert Greenwood, Seattle
