    Supporters of banned Palestine Action group arrested at London protest | Israel-Palestine conflict News

    Greater than 25 protesters have been detained by police a day after the activist group was banned within the UK.

    Police have arrested protesters in London for supporting activist group Palestine Action, which was banned at midnight in the UK.

    “Officers have arrested greater than 20 individuals on suspicion of offences below the Terrorism Act 2000. They’ve been taken into custody. Palestine Motion is a proscribed group and officers will act the place prison offences are dedicated,” the Metropolitan Police wrote on X on Saturday.

    Marketing campaign group Defend Our Juries stated in a press launch that 27 individuals, together with a priest and numerous well being professionals, had been arrested for offences below the Terrorism Act.

    They had been holding cardboard indicators, saying: “I oppose genocide. I help Palestine Motion.”

    Passersby reacted to the arrests because the police intervened within the demonstration at midday.

    “Met Police, you’re puppets of the Zionist state” and “go away them alone”, they had been quoted as shouting by the Press Affiliation, the British information company.

    Different supporters, indirectly concerned within the Palestine Motion protest, shouted: “Who do you shield? Who do you serve?” and “British police off our streets.”

    There have been additional chants of “From the river to the ocean, Palestine shall be free” in the course of the incident.

    The ban

    Police warned on Friday that expressing help for Palestine Motion could be a prison offence after the ban kicked in at midnight.

    “This contains chanting, carrying clothes or displaying articles comparable to flags, indicators or logos,” stated the pressure.

    A spokesperson for Defend Our Juries stated: “We commend the Counter Terrorism police for his or her decisive motion in defending the individuals of London from some cardboard indicators opposing the genocide in Gaza and expressing help for these taking motion to forestall it.”

    The proscription cleared parliament on Thursday, with a courtroom problem to attempt to cease it turning into regulation failing on Friday.

    The federal government introduced final week it will ban Palestine Motion below the Terrorism Act 2000, days after activists from the group broke into an air pressure base in southern England.

    Two plane on the base had been sprayed with pink paint, inflicting an estimated 7 million kilos ($9.55m) in injury.

    4 Palestine Motion activists had been remanded in custody on Thursday after showing in courtroom over the incident.

    Palestine Motion has condemned the proscription as an assault on free speech.

    The ban will make it a prison offence to belong to or help the group, punishable by as much as 14 years in jail.
