STOCKHOLM: Iceland’s international ministry mentioned on Tuesday (Sep 8) it had summoned the US ambassador after President Donald Trump posted a map that seemingly confirmed the island as a part of the US.
“Minister for International Affairs, Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir, summoned the US Ambassador yesterday to convey a transparent message that the picture was wholly inappropriate,” the ministry mentioned in an announcement to AFP.
Trump on Monday posted a picture to social media with a map of North America wherein Canada, Greenland, Mexico, a lot of central America and the Caribbean, in addition to Iceland, have been coloured in with the US flag.
All the landmass was labelled “United States of America” and the picture was posted with none additional clarification.
