Re: “Apprentices welcomed aboard” (June 11, A1):

Glad to learn in regards to the ferries’ apprenticeship program. Not a point out, although, of the obvious supply of expertise: U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy sailors.

Has anybody observed the magnificent Coast Guard presence at Pier 36, or the spectacular Navy presence in Everett and Bremerton? Many of those highly-skilled Coast Guard and Navy sailors are fully-trained, motivated, squared-away and skilled, and presumably prepared for some sea obligation with shorter deployments.

Is anybody from Washington State Ferries speaking with them?
