The prospect of Ukraine becoming a member of NATO was a “key query” in US-Russia talks in Moscow, the Kremlin stated on Wednesday (Dec 3) after negotiations with US envoys brought no sign of a breakthrough.
Membership within the alliance is without doubt one of the obstacles in US-led efforts to finish the four-year battle – a battle that US President Donald Trump had pledged to settle inside a day of returning to workplace.
Kyiv views membership in NATO as a bulwark towards a future Russian assault, whereas Russian President Vladimir Putin talked about the enlargement of NATO as one of many causes for sending troops to Ukraine.
The subject was “one of many key questions, it was mentioned,” between Putin, US envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, prime Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov stated.
“The American companions have confirmed their readiness to bear in mind our concerns and our key proposals,” Ushakov informed journalists, together with from AFP, throughout a briefing.
