ANKARA: Turkish authorities detained a lawyer for President Tayyip Erdogan’s largest political rival, jailed Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, an MP of the primary opposition social gathering, CHP, stated on Friday (Mar 28).
Imamoglu, a CHP member who leads Erdogan in some polls, was jailed on Sunday pending trial for graft, upsetting the biggest anti-government protests in a decade, which led in flip to mass arrests nationwide.
Mehmet Pehlivan, a lawyer who defended Imamoglu within the newest investigation, was detained “for fabricated causes”, CHP MP Turan Taskin Ozer stated in a publish on X, with out giving particulars.
