Thanks to columnist Patricia Murphy for reminding us how far down the street to anarchy we’re (“American lawmakers shot in their homes. How did we get here?,” June 24, Opinion).
Our Wild West gun tradition contributes to this malaise. Additionally at fault is our failure to institute widespread voting techniques that permit most everybody in each district to really feel represented. Proportional illustration, particularly together with ranked selection voting, may make a giant distinction. To implement it on a nationwide degree, combining many congressional districts on this method may transfer us away from poisonous partisanship and towards collaboration.
We are able to transfer away from feeling that the system is rigged to at least one wherein we really feel heard and are fuller contributors in decision-making.
