    Indian actor Manoj Kumar, known for ‘patriotic’ films, dies at 87 | Bollywood News

    Indian actor Manoj Kumar, recognized for his roles in Hindi-language movies with patriotic themes, has died aged 87.

    Kumar died in Mumbai because of heart-related problems on Friday, his son Kunal Goswami advised India’s ANI information company.

    “He had health-related points for a very long time. It’s the grace of God that he bid adieu to this world peacefully. His cremation will happen tomorrow [Saturday],” Goswami mentioned.

    All through his profession, Kumar was recognized for appearing – and at instances directing – movies that had a give attention to unity and nationwide satisfaction. For that, he was typically dubbed “Bharat” Kumar – a reference to the traditional Sanskrit phrase for India.

    Born Harikrishan Goswami, he renamed himself, in Bollywood custom, taking over the title Manoj Kumar.

    He made his debut in Indian cinema within the late Fifties and went on to star in a number of movies, many with patriotic themes, together with Upkar (1967), Purab Aur Pachhim (1970) and Kranti (1981).

    Kumar was the recipient of a number of nationwide awards, together with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honour for cinema.

    He was additionally a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governing Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Social gathering (BJP). Modi led the condolences, calling Kumar an “icon” of Indian cinema and saying his works “ignited a spirit of nationwide satisfaction and can proceed to encourage generations”.

    India’s President Droupadi Murmu posted on X that she was “saddened by the demise of legendary actor and filmmaker”.

    “He has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema,” she wrote.

    In his tribute, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar mentioned he “grew up studying from him that there’s no emotion like love and satisfaction for our nation”.

    “And if we actors gained’t take the lead in displaying this emotion, who will? Such a tremendous particular person, and one of many largest belongings of our fraternity,” Akshay Kumar posted on X.
