BEIJING: China’s commerce ministry on Tuesday (Mar 4) voiced opposition in opposition to a United States determination to impose tariffs on Chinese products associated to fentanyl and different points, vowing countermeasures that it stated had been geared toward safeguarding its rights and pursuits.

The US has “shifted the blame” and is utilizing its issues with lethal drug fentanyl as an excuse to impose tariffs, the ministry stated in an announcement.

The US has argued that China provides chemical compounds utilized in fentanyl manufacturing. China has denied wrongdoing.

China urges the US to “instantly withdraw” its unilateral tariff measures which are “unreasonable and groundless, dangerous to others”, the ministry stated.

The White Home stated on Monday that Trump had inked an order to extend a beforehand imposed 10 per cent tariff on China to twenty per cent.

The recent tariffs coincide with the beginning of China’s annual parliamentary meet when Beijing is predicted to roll out its 2025 financial priorities.

The announcement leaves Beijing lower than per week to publish countermeasures, as Trump’s administration reveals indicators of a hardening stance in the direction of its strategic rival regardless of backing down on the specter of tariffs of as much as 60 per cent when he took workplace.
