Re: “Washington secures AmeriCorps funding from Trump administration” (Aug. 29, Native Information):
AmeriCorps is the successor to Volunteers in Service to America, which was based in 1965 as a home model of the Peace Corps. President John F. Kennedy originated the thought for VISTA, though it was created after his demise.
I used to be a VISTA volunteer on a Paiute reservation in Northern Nevada within the early ’70s, working with the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada.
I’m grateful to our Lawyer Common Nick Brown and different Democratic-led states for securing the discharge of this funding to proceed the work of AmeriCorps volunteers.
