I disliked the pessimistic framing that as earnings inequality rises, “the load felt by others down under … appears sure to accentuate.” Sure, Seattle has been hit by an inflow of wealth, unequally distributed. We must always ensure our state tax code is truthful. However the unaffordability of Seattle is a coverage alternative.
On housing, we will determine to permit extra private and non-private housing development to decrease prices. Three-pack accent dwelling models have introduced decrease value two-bedroom starter properties onto the Seattle market. The One Seattle Progress Plan will permit much more housing provide, though there are efforts to cut back its scope.
Let’s not surrender on an reasonably priced Seattle when there are answers at hand.
