    Washington Post ordered to rehire columnist fired after Charlie Kirk posts

    WASHINGTON: The Washington Publish was ordered on Monday (Aug 24) to reinstate columnist Karen Attiah, who was fired over social media posts she wrote within the aftermath of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

    Kirk was shot lifeless in September on a Utah faculty campus, sparking a wave of grief amongst conservatives and threats of a clampdown on the “radical left” from President Donald Trump.

    Attiah wrote on social media afterward that she wouldn’t show unhappiness for Kirk’s killing and shared the activist’s previous racist feedback about Black ladies.

    She was later fired, with the Publish accusing her of “gross misconduct” and of violating its social media insurance policies, in line with the paper’s personal reporting.

    An arbitrator ordered the Publish on Monday to rehire Attiah and compensate her with again pay, writing within the choice that the Publish “didn’t have good and adequate trigger” for her dismissal.

    Attiah wrote on X that she was “glad” on the choice, saying she had been compelled out for “talking the reality”.

    The Publish stated it revered the arbitration course of however declined to remark additional.

    Attiah had labored on the publication for 11 years and famous that she was the “final remaining Black full-time opinion columnist on the Publish” on the time of her firing.

    In her posts about Kirk, she shared his racist claims that Black ladies lack “mind processing energy” and subsequently require assist from variety packages.

    Her different posts took intention on the Trump administration’s framing of Kirk as a martyr for the conservative trigger.
