    REGULATORY HEADWINDS

The telecom companies supplier is below heightened scrutiny following two outages involving Australia’s emergency call service that affected hundreds of customers and have been linked to four deaths. The incidents led to the departure of two senior executives, together with its finance chief.

Australia’s communications regulator stated on Thursday it had launched Federal Court docket proceedings in opposition to Optus Cell over the September 2025 outage, one of many incidents that drew criticism of the telecom supplier.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has alleged Optus breached two authorized obligations on 1,005 events in the course of the outage by failing to supply entry to the emergency name service and making certain these calls have been carried to the related termination level.

The regulator is in search of penalties of as much as A$250,000 per contravention.

Singtel and Optus didn’t instantly reply to Reuters requests for touch upon the stake-sale discussions or the ACMA proceedings.
