    Trump says EU to pay ‘very big price’ for Google fine

    WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Friday (Jul 24) threatened to hit the European Union with tariffs and a proper commerce investigation over Brussels’ newest antitrust penalty towards Google.

    In a submit on his Reality Social platform, Trump mentioned the bloc “pays a really large worth for this unlawful and extremely unethical conduct, which I’ve persistently warned them about”.

    He mentioned he would “instantly provoke a 301 Investigation” into what he referred to as the EU’s apply of “ROBBING” American corporations, and mentioned he anticipated a “substantial TARIFF” on the bloc “on the earliest attainable second.”

    “America of America just isn’t a ‘PIGGYBANK’ for Europe, nor will we permit it to be,” he wrote.

    Part 301 of the 1974 Commerce Act permits Washington to probe international practices it deems discriminatory and retaliate with tariffs. 

    The European Fee on Thursday fined Google 890 million euros (US$1 billion) for breaching the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the bloc’s landmark regulation policing the conduct of dominant on-line platforms. 

    It was the primary penalty imposed on the corporate underneath the laws.
