Europeans Stay Cautious as Trump Guarantees to Deploy Troops to Poland

President Trump has promised to deploy 5,000 U.S. troops to Poland, seemingly reversing course from his earlier statements. NATO allies responded cautiously throughout a summit on Friday and pushed for higher navy self-reliance.

“Effectively, after all I welcome the announcement. Our navy commanders are working by all the main points, however after all I welcome it. However let’s be clear: The trajectory we’re on, which is a stronger Europe and a stronger NATO, ensuring we’ll over time, step-by-step, be much less reliant on one ally solely, as we’ve got been for thus lengthy, which is the US.” “Effectively, it’s complicated certainly, and never at all times straightforward to navigate. However we have to proceed to deal with what we do, and never what everybody else says.”
