    Flow of aid to Gaza could take time, warns International Rescue chief

    LONDON: The move of support into Gaza may take time to ramp up, chief of the Worldwide Rescue Committee David Miliband stated on Monday (Jan 20), as reduction vans carried out a second day of deliveries following the beginning of the ceasefire.

    The deal requires 600 truckloads of support to be allowed into Gaza day-after-day of the initial six-week ceasefire, together with 50 carrying gas.

    “That’s a giant step up,” stated Miliband, chatting with Reuters in London. “I worry … it should take time. We need to ramp up as rapidly as potential.”

    He stated the IRC in Gaza is concentrated notably on water and sanitation, baby safety and different healthcare.

    “What counts is the drugs that will get via, the water … the gas … the help staff … and whether or not they get via safely,” he stated, referring to points with looting and safety threats to deliveries which were an issue throughout the 15-month conflict, when support to Gaza has been extraordinarily restricted.
