BEIJING: China on Wednesday (Apr 22) denied once more that a ship intercepted by the United States contained a “reward” from Beijing for Iran, a day after US President Donald Trump made the accusation.

Trump had stated that an Iranian-flagged ship seized by US forces within the Gulf of Oman on Sunday contained “a present from China”, which “wasn’t very good”.

His feedback got here after former US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley wrote on X that the ship was travelling from China to Iran and was linked to chemical shipments for missiles.

Responding to Haley’s accusations at an everyday information briefing on Tuesday, international ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated the ship was “a international container ship”, and that China opposed “any malicious affiliation and hypothesis”.

Requested about Trump’s feedback on Wednesday, Guo stated China had already said its place.

“As a accountable main nation, China has all the time set a great instance in fulfilling its due worldwide obligation,” he added.

Trump had stated on Tuesday that he was “a little bit shocked”, given he thought he had an “understanding” with China’s President Xi Jinping.

Every week in the past, Trump announced that Xi had assured him there could be no Chinese language weapons deliveries to Iran.
