    Lebanon president says country is no longer a pawn amid Israel ceasefire | News

    Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has stated that the nation would not be an “enviornment for anybody’s wars”, and that the ceasefire with Israel ought to result in work on everlasting agreements.

    In a televised deal with to the Lebanese public on Friday, he stated that Lebanon was not “a pawn in anybody’s sport, nor an enviornment for anybody’s wars, and we by no means will likely be once more”.

    His speech comes a day after a 10-day ceasefire was introduced between Lebanon and Israel, bringing respite from Israeli assaults that started on March 2, after Hezbollah fired at Israel, and have left greater than 2,200 lifeless and greater than one million displaced.

    Aoun stated that they have been coming into a part of “transition from engaged on a ceasefire to engaged on everlasting agreements that protect the rights of our folks, the unity of our land, and the sovereignty of our nation.”

    Aoun promised that any settlement reached wouldn’t infringe on the nation’s rights or relinquish any of its land, and that the negotiations weren’t a weak point or a concession.

    The ceasefire was introduced days after Lebanon and Israel held their first direct talks in many years in Washington, which prompted criticism from the Lebanese inhabitants.

    “Our goal is obvious and declared: to cease Israeli aggression towards our land and our folks, to acquire Israeli withdrawal, to increase state authority over all its land by its personal forces, to make sure the return of prisoners, and to allow our households to return to their houses and villages, in security, freedom and dignity,” the president stated.

    Israel continues to occupy areas of southern Lebanon regardless of the truce, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying troops wouldn’t withdraw in the course of the ceasefire.
