SYDNEY: An Iranian ladies’s soccer crew member who sought sanctuary in Australia has modified her thoughts after talking with teammates, Residence Affairs Minister Tony Burke stated Wednesday (Mar 11).
Seven members of Iran’s visiting ladies’s soccer crew had claimed asylum in Australia after they have been branded “traitors” at house over a pre-match protest.
One player and one support member sought sanctuary earlier than the facet flew out of Sydney to Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night in emotional scenes, joining five other athletes who had already claimed asylum.
Burke stated in parliament on Wednesday that he had since been suggested one of many group “had spoken to a few of the teammates that left and adjusted their thoughts”.
“She had been suggested by her teammates and inspired to contact the Iranian embassy,” he stated.
“On account of that, it meant the Iranian embassy now knew the placement of the place all people was.”
The remaining gamers have been moved from a protected home to a different location, he stated.
