    NATO intercepts second Iran missile in Turkish airspace: Ankara

    ANKARA: Ankara on Monday (Mar 9) confirmed a second ballistic missile was shot down by NATO defences in Turkish airspace, as Washington urged all of its residents to depart southeast Turkey over safety issues.

    Barely an hour later, Türkiye’s defence ministry confirmed one other ballistic missile fired from Iran had been intercepted in Turkish airspace by NATO defence programs within the second such incident in 5 days.

    “A ballistic munition launched from Iran and coming into Turkish airspace was neutralised by NATO air and missile defence property within the japanese Mediterranean,” it mentioned in a press release.

    Some fragments from the weaponry fell in open territory within the Gaziantep space, about 200km east of Adana, inflicting no accidents, the ministry added.
