Party politics: Defining ‘conservative’ | The Seattle Times

Re: “Partisanship: ‘Elections have consequences’ ” (Dec. 18, Northwest Voices):

I query the boilerplate use of the label “conservative” as the alternative of “progressive” in articles and opinion items discussing social gathering politics.

“Regressive” could be a extra correct label usually. Conservatives favor gradual, secure enchancment versus a radical retrenchment to some imagined previous utopia. Whereas there should still be a number of genuinely conservative politicians, particularly on the native stage, the MAGA motion is unabashedly regressive and never conservative.
