    WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump mentioned Monday (Aug 25) that he expects to go to China this 12 months or shortly afterwards, noting that financial ties between the 2 international locations have improved – whilst he saved the door open to steeper tariffs.

    Talking to reporters as he met South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Washington, Trump pointed to latest talks with Chinese language counterpart Xi Jinping: “In some unspecified time in the future, most likely throughout this 12 months or shortly thereafter, we’ll go to China.”

    “We will have an ideal relationship with China,” Trump vowed.

    The US chief added, “They’ve some playing cards. We’ve unbelievable playing cards, however I do not wish to play these playing cards. If I performed these playing cards, that might destroy China.”

    Tensions between the world’s two largest economies have been simmering this 12 months, however have considerably cooled since April, when each international locations slapped escalating tariffs on one another’s exports.
