IN THE NEWS: Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is adjourning the House of Representatives early for summer break. It’s not as if members of Congress are being rewarded for all of the arduous work they’ve completed (that checklist is embarrassingly quick). No, Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, simply needs everyone out of city in order that he can short-circuit the bipartisan effort to move laws that may drive President Donald Trump to launch all paperwork associated to Trump’s deceased pal, Jeffrey Epstein, the pedophile financier.

Johnson, a bland man with a bland identify, has proven little interest in asserting the prerogatives of Congress as a co-equal department of presidency. Slightly, he acts as if he’s the president’s lackey, deferring to Trump in all issues and toting his political baggage day and evening.

The speaker is a squeaker, a mouse within the Home.
