    Philippines says military leaders working to set-up ‘one-theatre’ approach in East, South China seas

    Japan and China have repeatedly faced off over uninhabited Japanese-administered islands within the East China Sea that Tokyo calls the Senkaku and Beijing calls the Diaoyu.

    The Philippines and China, in the meantime, have clashed frequently within the South China Sea round disputed shoals and atolls that fall inside Manila’s unique financial zone.

    China’s embassy in Manila didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

    Japan’s Joint Operations Command is operationalising the single-theatre idea, and the “Squad” grouping, which incorporates the defence ministers of Australia, Japan, the Philippines and the US, will set up a coordinating centre in December to implement it, Teodoro stated.

    “So it’s already an working idea. It doesn’t want another settlement,” Teodoro stated.

    Japan and the Philippines final 12 months signed a navy settlement that would enable their troopers on one another’s soil.

    Below President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the Philippines has prolonged its arc of alliances past the US, its conventional ally, signing defence offers with Japan and New Zealand, and negotiating for related agreements with Canada and France.

    On Monday, the Philippines and Lithuania signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen defence cooperation in areas like cyber safety, maritime safety and munitions manufacturing.

    “The attention-grabbing factor is that we’re going through completely related threats and our hostile neighbours are utilizing completely related method,” Lithuanian defence minister Dovile Sakaliene stated within the joint briefing with Teodoro.
