Re: “Don’t treat state’s pension surplus like a slush fund” (June 11, Opinion):

Thanks for the editorial relating to the Legislation Enforcement Officers and Fireplace Fighters Plan 1 pension surplus, which the state Legislature was contemplating utilizing to assist steadiness the price range.

I used to be a firefighter for over 38 years, retiring 10 years in the past, and dread yearly’s price range forecast and ensuing payments. Fortunately, the Washington State Council of Firefighters has an amazing workforce that continues to teach legislators on the significance of retaining pension funds intact. The WSCFF is aware of what working within the hearth service entails and the way members are affected over years of service.

Having served the general public for practically 4 a long time, I really feel that the state must cease taking a look at pension surpluses as a money cow and as an alternative give attention to sustaining these advantages, not just for retirees however those that are at the moment serving.
