Fix Our Forests Act: ‘Deceptively named’

Many people cherish our magnificent forests, and for good motive. They provide shade, magnificence, pleasure and numerous ecosystem companies (anchoring soil, stopping erosion and stormwater runoff, cooling and cleansing our air, wildlife habitat … infinite presents).

That’s why we should oppose the Repair Our Forests Act, which is a deceptively named invoice at the moment in Congress.

This is among the worst forest insurance policies now we have seen in a long time. As a substitute of stopping future wildfires, the invoice would permit extra logging of our oldest, most fire-resistant timber, doubtlessly rising forest hearth threat.

The invoice erodes bedrock environmental legal guidelines just like the Endangered Species Act and Nationwide Environmental Coverage Act.

One constructive factor we are able to do is name our representatives in Congress and ask them to oppose this invoice. Please converse for the timber — they enrich and profit our lives; it’s time we present them some respect and long-term safety in return. And maybe think about planting a tree to enliven your individual little nook of the world.
