BUCHAREST: Romania’s central election authority on Sunday (Mar 9) barred far-right pro-Russian candidate Calin Georgescu from working in Might’s presidential election re-run.

The rejection of his candidacy, which was condemned by far-right social gathering leaders as undemocratic, might be challenged on the constitutional court docket.

Dozens of supporters of the populist Georgescu gathered outdoors the election bureau shouting “Freedom” and briefly tried to drive their means via the safety cordon.

Georgescu submitted his candidacy for the Might poll re-run on Friday amid doubts that he could be allowed to run.

Romania’s highest court docket annulled the poll two days earlier than the second spherical of voting in December, citing allegations of Russian interference in Georgescu’s favour, which Moscow has denied.
