    US Coast Guard ship in Tasman Sea did not interact with Chinese navy, commander says

    SYDNEY: A US Coast Guard cutter crossing the Tasman Sea as a part of maritime safety cooperation with Australia and New Zealand knew Chinese language naval ships have been within the space however had no interplay with them, its commanding officer mentioned on Tuesday (Feb 25).

    China’s navy held live-fire exercises on Friday and Saturday in worldwide waters between Australia and New Zealand that Australian officers have described as unprecedented. The drills forced airlines to change the paths of 49 commercial flights for safety reasons.

    Euan Graham, senior analyst with the Australian Strategic Coverage Institute, mentioned it was the furthest south the Chinese language navy had held workouts, and confirmed China didn’t want a naval base within the South Pacific to mission energy.

    China was seemingly testing the diplomatic resolve of Australia, New Zealand and Australia’s safety ally america, he mentioned.
