Apple Maps changes Lake Ontario to Lake America after Trump order

Apple has renamed Lake Ontario as Lake America on its maps service app, after an order from US President Donald Trump as a part of Washington’s commerce spat with Canada.

The change was made for US-based customers, whereas these in Canada will proceed to see Lake Ontario displayed. The BBC has contacted Apple for remark.

The iPhone maker’s transfer follows Trump’s executive order to change the lake’s name after commerce talks between the neighbouring nations collapsed late final month, with Washington imposing new 50% tariffs on $20bn (£14.8bn; C$28bn) value of Canadian items.

Google made the same swap for its customers within the US in current days, resulting in backlash on social media.

Canada has responded to Washington’s levies, saying it’ll implement “greenback for greenback” counter-tariffs.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s workplace had walked away from the commerce negotiations, on account of what his workplace has referred to as unacceptable calls for.

Carney has criticised Washington’s method to negotiations, saying each side can begin having discussions as soon as the US begins “being critical”.
